Long-chained omega-3 fatty acids are components of the membranes of cells and organelles like mitochondria and ensure that they are sufficiently fluid. Only then, transport processes can occur sufficiently and the transmission of information by messenger substances is correct.
The omega-3 fatty acid EPA as well as the omega-6 fatty acid arachidonic acid are precursor substances for the synthesis of several tissue hormones. These play, among other things, an important role in regulating blood coagulation and blood pressure and in immune response. The tissue hormones synthesized from omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids act as antagonists, therefore a sufficient nutritional uptake of these fatty acids is essential for a balanced regulation.
Long-chained omega-3 fatty acids can only be found in food sources of animal origin, with the exception of certain algae. The conversion of short-chain forms from plant origin to long-chained forms by the body is very limited. Fish oil contains the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA in a physiologically ideal ratio.
EnzOmega® contains fish oil that has been concentrated and purified by molecular distillation. Therefore it contains large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids with a high degree of purity.
